Huntington salon owner holds back-to-school supplies drive
Beach House Tanning Salon is holding a food and school supplies drive throughout September to benefit Long Island Cares.
Doug DeLorenzo, owner of the Huntington-based salon, is offering clients 50% off products and services this month if they make a donation of food or school supplies.
Founded by the late Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares aims to improve food security for families, help them achieve self-sufficiency and educate the public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.
“Harry Chapin’s Charity, which is in the heart of the communities we serve, is an amazing organization,” DeLorenzo said. “It was our first choice when deciding which charity to work with. They’ve done so much good over the years and we wanted to be a part of that.”
DeLorenzo works with several local nonprofits and frequently encourages Long Islanders to give back with special offers at his business. In November he plans to let customers swap a “Can for a Tan” – a month-long Thanksgiving special offering discounts in exchange for donations of canned goods.
