Cutest Pet Contest proceeds donated to Baxter Pet Pantry

A Long Island credit union held a beauty contest for pets as a way to help support pet owners in need.

Garden City-based Sperry Federal Credit Union held an inaugural Cutest Pet Contest during the month of October to raise money for Baxter’s Pet Pantry. Operated by Long Island Cares, Baxter’s Pet Pantry provides free food and supplies for pet owners on Long Island.

The company announced the $310 donation last week after receiving more than 100 photo submissions. After tallying votes made by the public, three winners (and their owners) were awarded $100 Petco gift cards.

“Long Island Cares is thrilled to be the beneficiary of the Cutest Pet Contest,” said Cheryl Steinhauer, special events manager at Long Island Cares. “This generous donation will help to feed the pets of families in need in Nassau and Suffolk counties.”
