Thousands show up for Great Brookhaven Cleanup

More than 3,800 volunteers joined Curby, Brookhaven’s recycling mascot, for the town’s 12th annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup.

The event is sponsored by the town’s Department of Recycling and the Stamford, Conn.-based nonprofit Keep America Beautiful. The organization’s Great American Cleanup campaign is the nation’s largest organized cleanup, beautification and community improvement program, with more than 2 million volunteers across the country.

Through its Green Energy and Sustainability Initiative, Brookhaven has been making investments in renewable energy resources and technology to help reduce pollution and carbon emissions.
