Free fishing tournament for kids at Oyster Bay festival

The New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing will host its first Children’s Snapper Derby at the Oyster Bay Waterfront Festival and Marine Expo on Saturday, Sept. 14. The group aims to promote the sport of fishing and aid in conservation efforts throughout the state.

The tournament will take place throughout the afternoon at TOBAY Beach Marina and is free to enter. 

Members of the nonprofit will provide rods, reels, bait and lures, as well as guidance and support for the kids. Prizes and refreshments will be provided and prior fishing experience is not required.

Sign-in for the Snapper Derby is at 11 a.m. and the tournament will run from noon until 4 p.m.
