Jets donating $25K towards Wyandanch High football
The New York Jets will donate $25,000 to help save the Wyandanch High School football team’s season.
The school is trying to raise $350,000 so it can operate all of its sports teams, after voters rejected two Wyandanch School District budget proposals that would have substantially raised taxes. The $69 million contingency budget passed in June forced the district to cut the high school’s sports and after-school programs.
The Jets donation comes on the heels of $150,000 donated to the school’s sports teams by the Suffolk County Police Department, part of state money allocated to help fight gangs in the community.
Former Jets fullback Tony Richardson is scheduled to join Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and other school officials on Sept. 3 on the Wyandanch High football field to present the Jets donation.
The Wyandanch Warriors kick off their season at Greenport High School on Sept. 13.
