Long Island nonprofit books novel milestone

A Freeport-based nonprofit that promotes reading and literacy marked a major milestone last weekend.

The Book Fairies, which collects new and gently used books to distribute to schools, children’s hospitals and other organizations, reached its two millionth book donation on Sept. 15. The nonprofit was founded in 2012 by Long Island mom Amy Zalansky, who wanted to share her love of reading (and her expansive personal library) with others.

By 2018, The Book Fairies reached one million books donated, and has now doubled that achievement just 18 months later.
