Costume retailer offers unique Halloween experience

Rubie’s Costume Company’s annual Halloween display is back at the family-owned company’s Westbury store.

The Dark Zone is a free interactive experience for customers browsing the costume manufacturer’s 17,000-square-foot retail outlet on Cantiague Rock Road.

This year’s displays include a 20-foot-tall animatronic rapping skeleton, a color-changing gargoyle, superheroes, dinosaurs, wolves and other characters positioned throughout the store’s aisles.

All of the set pieces and costumes are designed by the Rubie’s team. Marc Beige, CEO and co-owner of Rubie’s, says they wanted to turn the store into a fun experience for shoppers that they wouldn’t get from shopping online.

The Dark Zone is open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Visitors to the attraction are required to sign a waiver before entering.
