Town asks kids for Memorial Day musings
While parades and other in-person events are off the table for this Memorial Day, the Town of Islip is asking elementary school students for their thoughts about the holiday.
Town officials would like interested students to write a paragraph about what Memorial Day means to them. Submissions, including the student’s name, age, school and possibly a picture, will be shared on the town’s social media channels in a show of support for the nation’s military veterans.
“On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to those who served our country with parades, festivities, barbecues and celebrations that traditionally, would bring people together in remembrance,” Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said in a town statement. “Although this year will be different, let’s honor our veterans in a new way.”
Paragraphs and photos should be sent via email to [email protected] with “Memorial Day 2020” in the subject line.
