PinkTie food drive boosts pantries, feeds families
Long Island-based charity PinkTie has collected and delivered more than 25,000 pounds of groceries to 20 food pantries in the area, thanks to its PinkTie Delivers initiative.
The program encourages people to leave grocery donations on their doorstep, which are then picked up and dropped off at partnering food pantries.
Among the items collected and dropped off by PinkTie were 160 $50 gift cards from Shoprite; 2,000 pounds of food donated by Krantz Motorsports; 40 cases of bottled water from Keller Williams Points North; and 250 prepared meals from HoneyFlower Foods. Valley Bank also donated $1,000, according to a PinkTie statement.
The PinkTie Delivers team dropped-off the items to the Brentwood Youth Enrichment Services food pantry, Neighbors Supporting Neighbors food pantry, St. Ignatius Parish Outreach pantry and Hempstead Salvation Army.
Mike Cave, PinkTie co-Founder and CEO of 1st Equity Title and Closing Services, said the COVID-19 pandemic underscores how people are all connected.
“We are staying home to protect society. We are sacrificing for the greater good, donating, volunteering and supporting our neighbors. That mentality will continue to resonate with our community,” Cave said in the statement. “People will remember the business, companies and volunteers that helped each other, especially those that have done well by doing good. Our partner organizations like Late Night Chauffeurs, 1st Equity, Dime Community Bank, Keller Williams, Valley Bank, Recommerce, Long Island University and HoneyFlower Foods have helped us innovate and support families through this disaster. Right now, we are doing everything we can to provide immediate assistance to those in need.”
PinkTie Delivers says items most needed include: Baby formula, diapers, canned goods like tuna or chicken, pasta and pasta sauce, shelf-stable milk and juice, cereal, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, ramen and peanut butter and jelly.
To donate food without leaving their homes, people can text their name, address and schedule a pickup time to 631-397-1234.
