Hempstead libraries receive $340K grant
The Hempstead Town Board on Wednesday approved more than $340,000 in federal CARES Act funds for public libraries throughout the town.
The funding will help libraries cover the unforeseen expenses incurred during the pandemic, allowing them to continue providing essential programs and services to the community. Many libraries have continued to offer services throughout the pandemic with safety measures in place, including UV-lighting to disinfect books and printed materials, protective plexiglass and personal protective equipment.
“Libraries are important community resources that have been hit hard during the pandemic, and we are proud to provide this grant funding to help them recover,” said senior councilwoman Dorothy Goosby.
