Sid Jacobson JCC launches COVID Relief Hub

The Sid Jacobson JCC in Greenvale has launched a COVID Relief Hub in partnership with the UJA-Federation of New York.

The Hub is a one-stop-shop that provides help and support to assist those who were furloughed or laid off and those feeling anxious, depressed, or scared about tomorrow, according to a JCC statement.

The Hub’s services include case management, mental health and wellness support, financial and legal assistance, career services, benefits, and food security assistance. Caseworkers work one-on-one with individuals to explain all of SJJCC’s available resources to receive the assistance required.

Mental health and wellness workshops are available to help manage day-to-day stresses and on-going struggles as well as weekly job search workshops led by a career services specialist.

Critical financial and legal counseling is provided by the Hub’s on-site partner New York Legal Assistance Group. Caseworkers are also available to guide individuals through the often complicated available benefits including health insurance, disability coverage, SNAP, housing, and social security.

“COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on so many lives right here in our community, people  just like you and me,” Connie Wasserman, associate executive director of the Sid Jacobson JCC, said in the statement. “People who have been furloughed and have not returned to work because their industry is still not back; those who have been laid off and who can’t pay  their mortgage or rent; and those who are making the decision to take vital medication or put food on the table. These are real stories of individuals living in our neighborhood who will benefit from all the Hub has to offer.”
