Student composers sought for annual competition

The Long Island Composers Alliance is seeking students to compete in its annual contest and concert.

Open to all students from elementary through high school, each musical composition should be less than five minutes and written for solos, duos, trios and quartets.

The contest offers $100 cash prizes for outstanding student compositions.

This year, the winning compositions will be presented via an online showcase in June. Video submissions are due by May 25 and each requires a $10 application fee.

Since 1973, this annual celebration of young composers and performers has become one of LICA’s most popular events. “Music By and For Students” has become the model for state-wide NYSSMA student composition programs.
