20 students win PSEG-LI Earth Day video contest
Twenty Long Island students are winners of PSEG Long Island’s first-ever Earth Day Video PSA Contest.
The 10 winning PSAs made by the 20 students were chosen from 207 videos that were submitted for the contest.
Over the past two and a half months, nearly 4,500 students in grades 4-8 engaged in the PSEG-LI-sponsored I AM EM-Powered Program and Student Challenge. The STEM-related coursework provided lessons on energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy in alignment with current educational standards on these topics. Teachers could select and submit their three favorite videos to be judged in the contest.
The winners were 6th graders Pavly Zaky and Juliette Markesano, and 7th graders Jacob Park, Dylan Couture and Josh Bonfanti from East Meadow Middle School; 5th graders Michael Gallarello and Jayleen Martorell from Bretton Woods Elementary in Hauppauge; 8th graders Valerie Tuosto and Zia Baluyot from Lynbrook South Middle School; 7th graders Nicole Marino, Clara Levy, Brooke Marek and Leah Anzalone of Mineola Middle School; 8th graders James Catania and Jose Velasquez of Oyster Bay High School; 5th graders Skyler Placella and Abigail Rudnet of James Vernon School in Oyster Bay; 5th graders Lena Okurowski, Sophia Lastorino and Layla Kelly of Bayview Elementary in West Islip.
