Walt Whitman HS student wins scholarship in vaccination program

An incoming freshman at Walt Whitman High School in South Huntington has won a full scholarship to college, thanks to a state vaccination incentive program.

Isabella Weber was one of 10 winners in this week’s drawing of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s ‘Get a Shot to Make Your Future’ initiative, which rewards 12- to 17-year-olds for getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Weber, one of two students from Suffolk County to win this week, will receive a full scholarship to any SUNY or CUNY school, including tuition, room and board, and expenses. She is interested in pursuing a career in law.

“I wasn’t expecting to win because it was such a big number of people who entered,” Weber said in a school statement. “This is life-changing, so I was really happy to hear that I was selected.”
