HIA-LI to host ‘Women Leading the Way’ event
HIA-LI will host its 11th Annual ‘Women Leading the Way’ executive leadership event later this month.
The event is being held Friday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the LGBT Network at 125 Kennedy Drive in Hauppauge.
‘Women Leading the Way’ features a panel discussion with Long Island-based female business leaders, as well as a craft fair. The event is aimed at enlightening business owners, business leaders, and others interested in learning from the experiences and perspectives of successful Long Island businesswomen amid today’s economy.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Domenique Camacho-Moran, a partner with Farrell Fritz PC. Panelists include Lisa Mirabile, president and CEO of Vertigo Media Group; Theresa E. Sanders, president and CEO of the Urban League of Long Island; Lauren Nichols, president of 3G Warehouse, Inc.; and Natalie Wright, Suffolk County’s Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning.
The number of women-owned businesses nationwide increased 21 percent between 2014 and 2019, while all businesses increased 9 percent, according to data from the Census Bureau. More than 10 million women-owned firms generated $1.9 trillion in sales and employed 13 million people.
“Despite growing numbers, female entrepreneurs continue to face special challenges in the corporate marketplace,” Terri Alessi-Miceli, president and CEO of HIA-LI, said in a written statement. “This event will shed light on these challenges, and strategies to overcome them.”
The registration fee is $50 for in-person attendance, and $25 for virtual participation via Zoom.
