Mulchfest turns Christmas trees into garden cover

Residents in the Town of Hempstead can dispose of their Christmas trees and get a bag of mulch in return.

The two-day event known as Mulchfest takes place at Baldwin Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2 and Saturday, Jan. 8.

Residents can bring their Christmas trees and cardboard boxes down to the event where the Mulchfest crew will put the Christmas trees through a wood chipper to provide mulch that can be used for gardening purposes. Those who cannot attend on the Mulchfest dates can still drop off Christmas trees only at Baldwin Park from Monday, January 3 to Friday, January 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Any surplus mulch created will be used towards various town parks for future planting and landscaping plans.

Baldwin Park is located at 3232 Grand Ave. in Baldwin.
