Drum Summit on the beat at The Jazz Loft
The Jazz Loft will present its Drum Summit next month featuring legendary drummer Ronnie Zito.
The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 at The Jazz Loft’s Stony Brook venue.
Zito, who plays in the band for the Broadway show “Chicago,” is an accomplished studio drummer and he has also toured with big bands. He has played drums for stars like Bobby Darin, Cher, Roberta Flack and many others.
For the Drum Summit, Zito will square off against Darrell Smith, director of Jazz Education and Performance for the education program at Jazz House Kids. The two will be joined by Mike Hall on bass, Rich Iacona on piano, Steve Salerno on guitar, Eric Kay on tenor saxophone and Tom Manuel on cornet.
“It’s a huge honor to be able to welcome Ronnie Zito to the Jazz Loft,” said Manuel, Jazz Loft founder. “His contributions to jazz are incredible and his many years with Woody Herman and Bobby Darin are just two highlights of a career that has spanned seven decades.”
The Jazz Loft is located at 275 Christian Ave. in Stony Brook.
