Whaling Museum to hold two summer camp weeks
Registration is now open for the two summer camp weeks that the Whaling Museum & Education Center in Cold Spring Harbor is hosting in August.
The museum’s Ocean Adventure Camp, open to children entering grades 1 through 5, will be held Monday, August 21 through Friday, August 25.
At the Ocean Adventure Camp, kids will discover how scientists study the world of marine biology and oceanography, exploring the seas through science, art, history, and culture. Activities include science experiments, craft projects and games, as well as a field trip day from the museum down to the harbor to collect and study water samples.
The four-day Maritime Mysteries Camp is open to children entering grades 3 through 7 and runs from Monday, August 28 through Thursday, August 31. Campers will explore secret stories from maritime history and activities include experiments, Escape-the-Room riddles, scavenger hunts and craft making. The kids will also learn how to decode star constellations, crack a pirate’s code, decipher secret messages, travel the museum with a treasure map and explore items close up from the museum’s collection.
For those who register before May 15, the Ocean Adventure Camp costs $325 for non-members and $290 for members. Early registration for the Maritime Mysteries Camp costs $260 for non-members and $232 for members.
