Annual youth triathlon set for Cedar Beach

The fourth annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon will be held at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai later this month.

The event is hosted by Lightning Warriors, a local nonprofit team for youngsters that aims to make the sport available and unlock athletic and leadership potential in young athletes.

Mini Maniac kicks off at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17 and is open to competitors between the ages of 5 and 17. The triathlon is divided into four separate races with the distances dependent on each age group.

Organizers say the event provides a supportive environment where every participant is cheered on and celebrated, regardless of their skill level. By focusing on the journey rather than just the finish line, the event promotes values like perseverance, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
