NYU Langone hosts end-of-summer baby shower

NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola hosted a baby shower last week to educate future parents and answer questions on what to expect.

At the event, held at the hospital’s Research and Academic Center at 101 Mineola Blvd., expectant moms met the staff who will help deliver their babies and also talked with other moms-to-be.

The program included a tour of the hospital’s New Life Center and the opportunity to talk with lactation specialists and with labor and delivery nurses.

The baby shower began with questions and answers, followed by lunch and a raffle featuring blankets, teddy bears, and other prizes donated by the community and staff. Moms received a baby bag with diapers, wipes, shampoo, and a raffle ticket as gifts for attending, according to a hospital statement.

“Having a baby can be both an exciting and stressful experience, especially for first-time parents,” Dr. Erika Banks, professor and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, said in the statement. “The mission here is to provide parents with support, a visit to the labor floor, and answers that decrease their anxiety.”
