Brookhaven opens applications for down payment help
The Town of Brookhaven has opened applications for its Down Payment Assistance Program.
The program, administered by the Long Island Housing Partnership, can provide eligible first time homebuyers with up to $39,000 towards down payment/closing costs towards the purchase of an eligible new or existing single-family home, provided that the applicant is income eligible and meets all program requirements.
The money for the down payment assistance is made possible by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Additional funding for down payment and rehabilitation may be available from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, if the applicant qualifies. The applicant must also be able to satisfy the mortgage lender’s minimum down payment requirements and be able to secure a mortgage. Homeowners are required to reside in the home as their principal residence for a minimum of 10 years.
There is a $75 application fee and applications are being accepted on a first come first served basis until funding has been exhausted. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2023.
