Girl Scouts hosts annual Girl Fest in Bayport
This year’s Girl Fest, a day of music, fun, and sisterhood sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, was attended by a crowd of over 150 girls, celebrating the kickoff of the summer camp and outdoor activity season.
The annual event was held in Bayport on Saturday, June 1 at the Girl Scouts Camp Edey, a 96-acre waterside facility with a large lake for fishing, swimming, paddle boating and kayaking. It is billed as an opportunity for girl scouts and their friends to get outdoors, ditch their devices, and focus on personal connection, communication and fun.
“Outdoor adventures have been an integral part of the Girl Scout experience for over 110 years,” said Tammy Severino, Girl Scouts of Suffolk County’s president and CEO. “We know that spending at least 120 minutes a week in nature is associated with improved mood, focus, and confidence. Girl Fest empowers girl scouts in a family fun event and is the perfect kickoff to our amazing summer camp and program activities, including our Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge.”
Activities at Girl Fest included gaga-ball, paddle boats, campfire cooking, scavenger hunts, STEM activities, and crafts, as well as DJ music and dancing. Food vendors were also featured, including Duck Donuts, Frodo’s Franks Truck and Kona Ice Truck.
