Kura Sushi opens automated restaurant in Smith Haven Mall

Kura Sushi has opened a new restaurant in the Smith Haven Mall.

This is the Japanese restaurant chain’s second Long Island location, following one that opened last in July 2023 in Carle Place.

Kura Sushi features an automated revolving sushi bar, where a conveyor system circulates throughout the restaurant bringing food from the kitchen direct to the tables. Drinks at Kura Sushi are delivered by a robot programmed by human servers.

The restaurant also features the chain’s Bikkura Pon Prize System, where for every five plates inserted into tableside slots, a Japanese animation appears on a tableside tablet and for every 15 plates inserted, guests receive a surprise.

Kura Sushi has four locations in New York, including the two on Long Island and others in Flushing and Scarsdale. It has 64 restaurants in the U.S. and more than 500 worldwide.
