PSEG employees help fight hunger, homelessness at The INN

Dozens of PSEG Long Island employees have been helping provide clothing and meals for guests at the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen in Hempstead.

The INN supports people challenged by hunger, homelessness and poverty, and serves full five-course meals to guests daily with the help of volunteers. PSEG Long Island sponsors meals that employee volunteers help to prepare and serve for guests of the soup kitchen. The volunteers also offer important information about PSEG Long Island’s financial assistance and energy savings programs.

In addition to the kitchen help, PSEG Long Island held clothing drives at its offices and facilities from December through March, where employees were encouraged to donate gently used clothes, footwear, winter gear and other items to The INN’s walk-thru thrift shop. The response was enormous, providing hundreds of bags of new and gently used items.

“We recognize the effort it requires for employees to take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer and serve our local communities, and it is greatly appreciated.” said Cynthia Sucich, The INN chief development and programs officer. “It is because of corporate groups like PSEG Long Island that we can continue to serve daily meals and provide essential items to thousands of Long Islanders in need.”

PSEG employee volunteers were grateful for the chance to make an impact in the community they serve. “Volunteering at The INN was one of the most fulfilling experiences I have had at PSEG Long Island,” said Emmanuel Panaligan, who grew up in Valley Stream and is now an engineer with PSEG Long Island. “It made me very thankful that I could contribute to their efforts, and I am fortunate that I am part of a company that opens doors for such opportunities to give back.”
