Nassau County Bar Association donates $10K to The Safe Center’s Client Needs Project
In support of victims of domestic violence, the Nassau County Bar Association’s WE CARE Fund has donated $10,000 to Bethpage-based The Safe Center’s Client Needs Project, which helps survivors of abuse and their families with essential resources, from transportation to temporary housing to legal representation.
“In 2023, the WE CARE Grant for the Client Needs Project allowed us to assist clients with emergency money, MetroCards, gas cards, food cards, household furnishings, moving necessities and other basic needs,” said Debbie Lyons, associate executive director of The Safe Center. “This grant allows our staff to provide the children and adults fleeing their abuser with necessities to begin their lives again.”
The Client Needs Project also offers things like meal deliveries, basic health insurance and even educational needs, ranging from professional licenses, occupational books and school supplies to cameras for online meetings and interviews, uniforms, flash drives, backpacks, resume supplies and planners.
WE CARE, the charitable arm of the Nassau County Bar Association, has distributed more than $5 million through charitable grants to improve the quality of life for children, the elderly and others in need throughout Nassau County since 1988. Since its inception, the WE CARE program has matured into a nationally-recognized model for similar programs instituted by other bar groups.
