Long Island Cares to host third annual Paws Walk

Animal lovers and their four-legged companions will gather for a Paws Walk and 5K on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, hosted by Long Island Cares.

Returning for the third year, the event will benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry, which provides pet food and supplies for Long Island families in need as part of the Long Island Cares’ broader mission to raise funds and awareness in the fight against food insecurity.

The event kicks off with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K walk/run at 9 a.m. Participants and their pets will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Belmont Lake while making a meaningful impact supporting Long Island’s most vulnerable populations.

Founded in 1980 by the late Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares has been on a mission to end hunger by distributing food and addressing the root causes of food insecurity. In 2023, the organization provided 14 million pounds of food, equivalent to 11.5 million meals, but the need remains great.
