The Safe Center marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October
Bethpage-based The Safe Center will recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of special events aimed at raising awareness and providing support for victims and survivors of domestic violence.
On Saturday, Oct. 5 the nonprofit will hold its “Gallery of Hope” art exhibit at the Hicksville Public Library, located at 169 Jerusalem Ave. in Hicksville. The exhibit will feature powerful artwork created by survivors, providing a platform for survivors to express their journeys of healing and empowerment. The event is free and open to the public.
Later in the month, on Thursday, Oct. 24, The Safe Center will host its Annual Gala at the Nassau County Museum of Art at One Museum Drive in Roslyn. This year’s event will feature a keynote by Alicia Santandreu, one of the first domestic abuse survivors served by The Safe Center after its creation in 2014. The evening will support The Safe Center’s mission to provide resources, education and services to those affected by abuse.
“This is a month to recognize and celebrate the remarkable efforts of community champions who stand by survivors,” said Joshua Hanson, executive director of The Safe Center. “This year, as we mark The Safe Center’s 10th anniversary, we pay tribute to our expert staff, dedicated volunteers, community partners, and visionary leaders. Thank you to everyone—both newcomers and long-time supporters—who have supported us over the past decade as we tirelessly serve our community.”
In addition to the special events, The Safe Center will offer community and school training sessions throughout the month. Groups or individuals interested in attending or organizing a training session can contact [email protected].
