Commack Day raises $8,000 to support local fire, ambulance and community organizations
More than 2,500 people attended the 5th Annual Commack Day at the Suffolk Y JCC at 74 Hauppauge Road in Commack on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The event, recognizing the vibrant, unified, and strong spirit of the Commack community, raised $8,000 for the Commack Volunteer Fire and Ambulance department, a scholarship for Commack High School students and a donation to support suicide prevention.
Organizers presented $1,500 checks each to the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Commack Volunteer Fire Department, a check for $2,500 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and $2,500 to Commack High School for a communications scholarship in the name of the Eric Spinato Foundation, honoring the legacy of journalist Eric Spinato.
“Commack Day is now the premier annual event supporting our community,” said Dean Spinato, organizer of the event and brother of the late Eric Spinato. “It’s our opportunity to celebrate, support, and give back in the best way possible.”
The day featured more than 110 vendors offering games, live music, food and drinks and more, including a bounce house, gaga ball pits, photo booths, mini golf, face painting, axe throwing and a mini circus, plus an appearance by the 501st Legion of Star Wars cosplay characters.
