Town of Smithtown showcases virtual gallery for Red Ribbon Week

The Town of Smithtown is showcasing a virtual gallery of artwork from budding artists who submitted interpretations of the 2024 Red Ribbon Week Theme – “Life is a Movie, Live Drug Free.”

The original works of art are now on display via the Town of Smithtown Horizons Education and Counseling Center webpage.

The Town of Smithtown Horizons Counseling and Education Center, in partnership with the Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau, asked students from Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the township to illustrate how they personally take care of their mind in healthy ways.

Each student submitted artwork to bring awareness about alcohol and drug use, which has reached epidemic levels, in honor of Red Ribbon Week, sponsored by National Family Partnership, Oct. 23 through Oct. 31.

According to RedRibbon.org, children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those whose parents do not, yet only a quarter of teens surveyed report having these types of conversations. The National Red Ribbon Week Campaign aims to unite communities in taking a stand against drugs.

The online gallery is now live through the official Town of Smithtown Horizons Education and Counseling Center website. To view the gallery, visit: https://smithtownny.gov/724/2024-Red-Ribbon-Week-Virtual-Art-Gallery
