United Veterans Beacon House cuts ribbon on refurbished group home
Long Island nonprofit veteran’s service agency United Veterans Beacon House (UVBH), cut the ribbon on its newly refurbished group home in Bay Shore under its Restoring Homes Restoring Hope housing initiative on Friday, Nov 15.
The home is the third of 11 slated for refurbishment since UVBH launched the initiative two years ago. Long Island companies, foundations and individuals are invited to sponsor a home in whole or in part, and each home will henceforth be referred to as the sponsors’ home.
The Bay Shore home refurbishment is the result of a collaborative effort by Long Island Real Estate Group (LIREG), through a competitive grant award of $30,000, and with the ongoing support of National Grid and Lowe’s.
“Once again, since launching the Restoring Homes Restoring Hope program a couple of years ago, we have seen Long Island companies and foundations step up to sponsor and/or actively contribute to the complete refurbishment of group residences in need of repair,” says UVBH President Frank Amalfitano. “Only through the generosity of our fellow Long Islanders have we been able to complete three homes; we have eight to go. I know in my heart that we will get there.”
The refurbished home houses six veterans and is funded in part by the Veterans Administration. The updates include new roofing, siding and windows, a new kitchen and kitchen appliances (provided by SC Contracting), a new bathroom, and new floors, doors and fixtures throughout the house. Asplundh Construction contributed its expertise to the finished product.
