Smithtown to host annual tree lighting and holiday festivities
The Town of Smithtown will host its annual tree lighting ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Smithtown Town Hall.
Organized by the Smithtown Recreation Department, the holiday event will feature live music, performances by local school groups and dance companies, holiday treats and an appearance by Santa Claus with the Smithtown Fire Department.
“This event has grown significantly every year,” said Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim in a statement. “From spectacular live performances to the incredible transformation of Town Hall into a winter wonderland, it’s a can’t-miss celebration. I encourage residents to join us for an evening filled with joy and holiday spirit.”
Scheduled live performances include the Great Hollow Select Chorus, Hauppauge High School Kickline, and Smithtown West Jazz Choir. Santa will meet children before leading the tree-lighting countdown. Complimentary cookies and hot chocolate will be provided, with additional food available for purchase.
The town will also set up a drop site at the ceremony for the Smithtown Food Pantry and Toys for Tots. Residents are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or new, unwrapped toys to benefit local families in need.
The event is free to attend for Smithtown residents. The rain date is Thursday, Dec. 5.
