PSEG Long Island and EVgo help reduce ‘range anxiety’ for EV drivers on Long Island

In an effort to reduce “range anxiety” for electric vehicle (EV) drivers on Long Island, PSEG Long Island recently provided EVgo, an EV charging network, with a $197,857 rebate to install six DC Fast Charger ports on Montauk Highway in Shirley, in close proximity to several supermarkets and restaurants.

“PSEG Long Island created the EV Make Ready program to help promote the build out of EV fast charging stations in public places, such as shopping areas, apartments and office buildings across Long Island,” said Paul DiBenedetto, PSEG Long Island’s electric vehicle program manager. “These are significant incentives that may offset much of the building costs needed for large and small commercial customers to create the groundwork to install EV chargers. EVgo has been a helpful partner to that end.”

The rebates covered approximately 75% of EVgo’s infrastructure costs to install the public chargers. Since 2021, hundreds of new charging stations have been built to create a broader EV charging network throughout our community. 

“EVgo has long worked closely with our utility partners across the country to accelerate the buildout of public charging infrastructure,” said Courtney Day, EVgo’s director of Funding Management. “Support from PSEG Long Island has been instrumental in expanding our network throughout Long Island.”

Several projects are currently in the works and should be available shortly in Westbury, South Setauket and other locations in Nassau, Suffolk and the Rockaways.
