John’s Crazy Socks opens warehouse retail store

Down Syndrome has never held Huntington native John Cronin back, and he continues to show what he and others with differing abilities can do.

This week was no exception, as the entrepreneur announced the opening of the new John’s Crazy Socks warehouse store at 110 Bi-County Blvd, Suite 120, in Farmingdale.

A grand opening ribbon-cutting on Friday, March 21 kicked off a two-day open house celebration, marking the official opening of the store.

The store’s staff includes people with differing abilities who are also working in the warehouse. Customers can also order socks online and pick them up at the warehouse, where Cronin will often be present, greeting people and taking photos.

John’s Crazy Socks, which is the world’s largest sock store in terms of the number of types of socks offered. Co-founders John and his father Mark travel the country and the world speaking about hiring people with differing abilities, inclusion and equal pay for people with disabilities. More than half of their staff are people with differing abilities.

Each year John’s Crazy Socks also releases a special Down Syndrome Day sock to raise awareness and to National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and Down Syndrome International (DSI).
