Smithtown nonprofit feeds vets and first responders
The annual Heros 4 Our Heroes campaign is led by Donato Panico, owner of Panico’s Community Market in Smithtown, as a way to thank the veterans, police officers and other emergency responders who help keep Long Islanders safe.
This year, Panico and a team of volunteers spent a week preparing and packaging more than 600 3-foot-long sandwiches before distributing them this past Thursday to police and fire departments across the Island and the city.
Every year the Heros 4 Our Heroes Foundation gives out more than 3,000 sandwiches and 200 turkeys to local veterans and first responders with the help of employees, friends and members of the community.
