New animal shelter for Town of Islip

The Town of Islip began construction of its new animal shelter this week.

The new 17,000-square-foot facility at 295 Carleton Avenue in Central Islip will have more kennels and more viewing rooms than the existing shelter and will also have an on-site surgical room.

Expected to be completed next fall, the new animal shelter will also feature new heating and cooling systems, separate entrances for staff and animals, ample visitor parking, energy efficient lighting, administrative office space and separate entrances and exits for animal control officers.
