Cat cafe opening in Huntington Village

A new retail concept is coming to Huntington that’s one part coffee shop, one part cat rescue. Catpurrccinos Cat Cafe is having a grand opening on Sunday, Dec. 1 to celebrate its new Main Street home.

The cafe is owned by Brittany Oliva, who formed the nonprofit Feral to Family Cat Rescue at the beginning of last year, and her fiance Chris Cafiero. Proceeds from Catpurrccinos will help support the organization’s rescue efforts and provide essential resources like veterinary care, cat food and litter. Feral to Family also helps facilitate the trapping, neutering and returning of feral cats, a practice known as TNR, to help curb Long Island’s feral cat population.

A special room dedicated to to the cats is divided from the eatery and features a separate ventilation system to prevent potential contamination. Guests can watch the cats and kittens through a glass window in the cafe, or watch from home thanks to a 24-hour livestream on the restaurant’s website.

Oliva says the concept was created to help support the rescue and give back to the cat community, while also serving as an adoption center to help cats find their forever homes. She says reservations are highly recommended and available in one-hour increments. In addition, Catpurrccinos will be rolling out monthly membership plans with unlimited visits.

“Our rescue has grown exponentially in a short amount of time,” Oliva said in a statement. “We are so excited to be opening Catpurrccinos Cat Cafe to financially support our rescue operations, bringing together our family’s love for creating delicious food with our desire to save more cats and help curb the feral cat epidemic.”

Catpurrccinos Cat Cafe is located at 322 Main St., Huntington. The grand opening is Sunday, Dec. 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
