Students compete to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Long Island Chapter recently honored 33 student volunteers who are participating in a competition to raise the most funds for LLS.

The nonprofit’s annual Student of the Year campaign will feature 16 teams from 14 different school districts on Long Island competing over the next seven weeks.

“We are always inspired by the eagerness of young people to get involved with their communities and make a difference in lives of those who are in the fight for their lives,” said Sara Lipsky, executive director of the LLS Long Island chapter. “Last year, students raised over $600,000 and produced a national winner for the first time ever. We expect similar success from this year’s group of young people and look forward to their selfless work.”

Students of the Year is a leadership development program for high school students. During the campaign, participants learn professional skills like entrepreneurship, marketing and project management while raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Top local fundraisers are then eligible to win the national title.
