Sewanhaka students compete for a cure at gymnastics meet
Sixteen student athletes from the Sewanhaka High School varsity gymnastics team took to the mats last month to raise money for medical research.
More than 200 gymnasts from various Nassau County schools participated in the sixth annual Cartwheel for a Cure meet at Oceanside High School on Saturday, Jan. 18 and Cold Spring Harbor High School on Monday, Jan. 20.
The meets, organized by Cold Spring Harbor gymnastics coach Teri Kindelmann, benefitted the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which funds research for cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that causes persistent lung infections. Kindelmann’s two daughters were both diagnosed with the disease.
