Stop & Shop to open early for customers 60 and older

Responding to the need to protect those most vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus, Stop and Shop has announced earlier hours for shoppers age 60 or older.

Beginning Thursday, March 19, all Stop and Shop stores will open from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. daily in order to service only customers who are age 60 and over.

The supermarket chain is implementing the early hours so those 60 or over can shop in a less crowded environment and allow for better social distancing.

After facing a crush of shoppers who’ve been stocking up on groceries and other items since virus fears began over a week ago, most Stop and Shop stores have adjusted hours to be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., to allow its staff to spend more time unloading deliveries, stocking shelves, and have some time to rest.

Stop and Shop also suggests using its new “contact-free” delivery option, especially for older people. The store notifies customers by text or email when the driver arrives and they will leave the bags on the doorstep or building entry.
