IKEA donates mattresses to Hope for Youth
IKEA Long Island announced on Tuesday a donation of 8 mattresses to Hope For Youth for their Sibling Reunification Program.
The Sibling Reunification Program provides a structured community-based location that reunites siblings rather than having them in separate foster homes. The program aims to provide a degree of normalcy to children during a stressful period.
“Our Sibling Reunification Program is a one-of-a-kind program on Long Island that meets a critical need within the local child welfare system,” said Dr. David Hegarty, Executive Director and CEO of Hope For Youth. “We are thankful to IKEA for helping us reach our goals to reunite children in foster care with their brothers and sisters.”
IKEA Long Island first partnered with Hope For Youth in 2016, donating over $10,000 of furniture for the nonprofit’s youth shelter in Babylon, which provides warm beds, hot meals and a safe home for teens in crisis.
“We are honored to work with Hope For Youth once again,” said Mike Baker, IKEA Long Island’s store manager. “We hope that with this donation, we can provide these children with some comfort and a safe, warm place to rest during an otherwise stressful time.”
