Suffolk Federal donation feeds Port Jefferson healthcare heroes

Suffolk Federal Credit Union has given $7,500 to help provide meals to healthcare workers.

The money, donated to the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, will go towards assisting local restaurants that are providing meals to healthcare staff at St. Charles Hospital and Mather Hospital, according to a SFCU statement.

Food orders and deliveries paid for by the donation will be coordinated by the chamber within the Port Jefferson Village Business Improvement District. Participating restaurants include Nantuckets, Prohibition Kitchen, Harbor Grill/Saghar, Salsa Salsa, C’est Cheese, Fifth Season, Slurp, Pasta Pasta, The Steam Room, PJ Lobster House, Wave Seafood & Steak, and The Pie.

As many area restaurants remain closed except for curbside pick-up and delivery, the donation also serves as a stimulant to the local economy.

“In these difficult times, it is truly a blessing to be part of our Port Jefferson community where the support is overwhelming,” Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant said in the statement “We thank our partners at Suffolk Federal for helping keep our merchants’ doors open and our front-line workers at St. Charles and Mather Hospitals fed and feeling the love and thanks of our community.”
