Free face shields for barbers and hair salons

To help ready them for next week’s anticipated reopening, barber shops and hair salons in the Town of Babylon can get free face shields, which are required by the state.

The town, the Babylon Industrial Development Agency and L3Harris Technologies will be distributing 1,000 donated face shields to the shops to help protect their employees and customers.

As a part of the New York Forward Phase 2 reopening, which is set to begin Wednesday, June 10, barbers and hairdressers will be required to wear a face mask and a face shield and get tested for COVID-19 within two weeks of starting work.

L3Harris Technologies, which has a location in the New Horizons Industrial Park in Amityville, is a global supplier of communication, electronic and defense systems with more than $16 billion in annual revenue. The conglomerate was formed by two publicly traded companies, L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation, which merged in 2019.
