Museum’s WWII anniversary event to be livestreamed
An event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II will be livestreamed next week.
The Museum of American Armor and Nassau County will observe the anniversary on Saturday, August 29 between 11:30 a.m. and 12: 30 p.m. with a livestream of vintage armor on parade, an interdenominational prayer service, the mournful sound of taps and reflections on the gift of freedom won by combat veterans.
Roslyn’s Gil Blum, 94, a WWII veteran, who’s platoon liberated Nazi concentration camps, will be one of the veterans in attendance at the event, which will also be attended by several Long Island elected officials.
The hour-long ceremony will be live streamed at abc7ny.com, on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, and at nassaucountyny.gov.
“We cannot, and will not, allow this pandemic to prevent us from paying proper tribute to an entire generation that saved the world from a dark and murderous fate,” American Armor Museum president and founder Lawrence Kadish said in a written statement. “Livestreaming through websites offered by Nassau County and WABC-7 ensure their story will be heard.”
The tribute program is being underwritten in part by Squad Security, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Polimeni International, Greenfield’s Shoprite, and PSEG.
