Canine cooler: Nassau splash parks go to the dogs

Nassau County will hold its first-ever Water Bark event next week at three of its splash parks.

While the county’s splash parks officially close for the season after Labor Day, they’re opening up one last time this year for dogs to run, splash and play. The free event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 13 at three splash parks at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Cow Meadow Park in Freeport and North Woodmere Park.

The event is being held in collaboration with North Shore Animal League America, which will have its Mobile Adoption Unit onsite during the Water Bark event, so attendees can meet adoptable local dogs.

Each Water Bark will have three sessions, for small dogs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; for medium dogs from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for large dogs from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All humans must wear a mask and each pet can be accompanied by no more than two people. All dogs must be on a leash when entering and exiting the facility.

The East Meadow and Freeport Water Barks are limited to 25 dogs and the North Woodmere canine splash fest is limited to 50 dogs on a first-come, first-served basis.
