Preschoolers team up for pajama drive

Students at The Chai Center Preschool in Dix Hills took part in a pajama drive to support children in need.

The preschoolers, aged 2 to 5, collected more than 50 pairs of pajamas to donate and celebrated their efforts with a pajama party at the school.

The pajama drive was organized by the Long Island chapter of the Pajama Program, which relies on a national network of volunteers, donors and partnerships, to provide new pajamas and storybooks to children facing adversity, and also supply resources for caregivers.

“Our students are young, but this charity was something they could really relate to,” Paulyne Weiss, director of The Chai Center Preschool, said in a written statement. “They wear pajamas at night when they go to bed and those pajamas keep them warm and cozy. When they were told that some children do not have warm cozy pajamas like they do, they immediately wanted to help. This enriching experience taught them kindness in sharing what they have with others and inspired important conversations.”
