Smokey Joe’s Cafe opens its run at Northport’s Engeman Theater

One of Broadway’s longest-running musical revues, “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” opened a six-week run at the Engeman Theater in Northport this week.

The popular show pays tribute to the songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and features 40 songs that were top hits for artists like Elvis Presley, The Coasters, The Drifters and Ben E. King.

Some of the musical classics performed in “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” include “Jailhouse Rock,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Charlie Brown,” “Stand By Me,” “On Broadway,” and dozens more.

The Engeman Theater production of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” is directed and choreographed by Deidre Goodwin, whose credits include “Chicago,” and “A Chorus Line” on Broadway, films such as “Ocean’s 8” and TV shows “Chicago Med” and “30 Rock.”

The cast features accomplished actors such as Devinré Adams, Christopher Brasfield, Francesca Farrari, Brian Maurice Kinnard, Alia Munsch, Tasheim Ramsey Pack, Mars Storm Rucker, Jeff Sullivan and Kai Brittani White.

The show runs from Sept. 16 through Oct. 31 and performances are presented on Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., with select Wednesday and Sunday evenings also available. Tickets are $80 on Saturday evenings and $75 for all other performances.
