Learn all about EVs at Drive Electric Long Island event

Thinking about getting an electric vehicle but want to know more about them first?

Drive Electric Long Island and the Town of North Hempstead are hosting an event in New Hyde Park next week featuring a panel of experienced electric vehicle owners.

Called Electric Vehicles 101, the free event at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, will be held at Clinton G. Martin Park, located at New Hyde Park Road and Marcus Avenue.

An electric vehicle show-and-tell presentation is part of the program.

Electric Vehicles 101 is part of the Town of North Hempstead’s Transportation Innovation Series. The town is a state-designated Clean Energy Community since it completed four “high-impact action items,” including: using multiple alternative fuel vehicles, such as plug-in hybrid and battery electric cars, for municipal business; participating in a Solarize North Hempstead campaign to reduce solar project costs through joint purchasing; completing energy code enforcement training on best practices for code compliance officers and other municipal officers; and adopting a benchmarking policy to track and report the energy use of the town’s municipal buildings.

The Clean Energy Community program is administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and helps local governments to implement clean energy actions, save energy costs, and improve the environment.

Drive Electric Long Island is a coalition of businesses, schools and nonprofit organizations that includes the following partners: The Long Island Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council; Farmingdale State College; Suffolk County Community College; PSEG Long Island; Emerald Alternative Energy Solutions; EmPower Solar; Sierra Club, Sustainability Institute at Molloy University; Northwell Health; Estee Lauder; Cameron Engineering; Rowan Energy Integration; Edgewise Energy; Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition; Environmental Advocates of New York; Long Island Progressive Coalition; EV Connect and the New York League of Conservation Voters.
