Panera Bread raises over $5,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Doherty Enterprises, the franchisee for Panera Bread on Long Island, donated over $5,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Long Island chapter.
Doherty, which owns and operates over 30 Panera locations on Long Island, held a week-long fundraising campaign in November to raise the money. Greg George, Doherty’s vice president of operations and Adrian Jara, the general manager of Panera’s Mineola location presented the $5,206 check to the nonprofit on December 21. The donation will help fund research for treatments for those diagnosed with blood cancers.
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 175,000 people were expected to be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in the United States last year, accounting for roughly 10 percent of new cancer cases.
