Solar powered tie dye at the Long Island Science Center

The Long Island Science Center is presenting a hands-on lesson in solar science next weekend.

Students will learn how harnessing the power of the sun creates a physical change that transforms plain bandanas into works of art. The class on Saturday, August 13 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. is part of the center’s Science Saturday Workshop series and will show how salt, ice, and coloring interact with the weather.

The cost of the session for non-members is $20 per student, which includes museum admission. Additional admission, at $15 per person, must be purchased upon arrival for any accompanying family members.

The Long Island Science Center is located at 40 Peconic Ave. in Riverhead.
