Walk in the Park to raise Alzheimer’s awareness

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is inviting residents to participate in its Alzheimer’s Walk in the Park this month to raise awareness and funds to help families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. 

The Long Island walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Babylon Town Hall at 200 Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst. A second walk will take place the next day, Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Battery Park Esplanade in lower Manhattan. 

Both events begin at 10 a.m. with registration opening at 9 a.m. The walks will also feature refreshments, live music, and family-friendly activities like face painting. 

There’s no registration fee, however, walkers are encouraged to raise funds, either individually or as part of a team. Proceeds raised through the walks will support AFA’s programs and services for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and research toward better treatment and a cure.

“No matter how long or far you walk, every step taken on September 24 and 25 provides help for today and hope for tomorrow,” Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s president and CEO, said in an organization statement. “These events are a way to honor those who have been affected by Alzheimer’s, heighten awareness, and raise funds that will make a difference for families in their time of need. We invite everyone to join us.”
